Coffee stains are some of the most common (and most difficult to treat) stains that happen in a home or office. With millions of cups being consumed every day, coffee inevitably ends up where it shouldn't be -- on shirts, ties, carpets, and more.

For black coffee:

• Use a mild detergent to blot the stain. If this doesn't work, try blotting with a solution of one-third cup white vinegar and two-thirds cup water then rinse with lukewarm water.

For coffee with cream and/or sweetener:

• Try using an enzymatic laundry detergent solution (follow the instructions on the package). Even after cleaning you should flush the stain with warm water to remove traces of sugar that could turn brown over time.

For coffee stains on delicate fabrics you may need to have them professionally cleaned.
